’Tis the season! Practice holiday brush lettering in Procreate by tracing 28 Christmas words and phrases right on your iPad. Learn script letter shapes, connections, and flourishing while creating designs you can use for handmade Christmas cards, ornaments, gift tags, chalkboard signs, and more.
How it works: Each short phrase in this workbook is designed to teach you brush lettering through repetition. Trace over the lettering on blank layers above the artwork layers, again and again. Tracing script lettering is one of the best ways to learn, building muscle memory for letter shapes and connections more quickly than freehand practice alone. This method teaches:
a modern brush lettering alphabet
natural letter connections,
bold flourishing,
multi-line lettering layouts.
How to use this Procreate workbook: A Procreate workbook is like a digital stack of traceable pages. Each “page” is a layer in the file. Just turn off a layer’s visibility to move to the next one. I’ve handled the set-up so that you can simply open any of the exercise files and start writing. (If this is all new to you, there’s an instructional guide included—and you can always contact me with questions.)
Use any Procreate brush. Select a Procreate brush with good pressure sensitivity that can draw fine lines with light pressure and thicker lines as you press harder, such as a brush lettering or pointed pen calligraphy brush. An iPad and Apple Pencil are required.
