How to Make Calligraphy Symmetry Art in Procreate

Happy Friday!
Radial symmetry is a powerful tool in Procreate. I’ll show you how to make flourished calligraphy designs with a beautiful mirror effect. Relaxing, meditative, and satisfying, this technique is certainly one of my favorites on the iPad!
This demonstration utilizes two of my Procreate brush packs: Calligraphy Nibs and Chalk Script.
In today’s video, I demonstrate one of the most relaxing things that I do on the iPad, which is to create symmetrical, calligraphic art in Procreate. This is a quiet, relaxing demonstration, but if you want to follow along, I'll get you started by explaining how to set up your art board!
I have a square file here, but you can use any size. Just make sure you're on a blank layer, then go to Settings, and turn on Drawing Guide. Immediately click Edit Drawing Guide and select the Symmetry setting. Then click on Options, and turn on Radial Symmetry. Make sure that Assisted Drawing is turned on. Turning on Rotational Symmetry as well can be helpful, depending on the type of design you’re after, because it affects how the design gets mirrored from one quadrant to the next. I suggest playing with this rotational symmetry setting – trying it both on and off – and seeing which way you prefer. I sometimes use it and sometimes don’t!
I then make sure that my guides are a bright, contrasting color against my background, and hit Done.
Now you're ready to start drawing, and like magic, your work will be mirrored eight times around the center point!
