Live Online Event: How to Design a Calligraphic Logotype

I earn small commissions for purchases made through links in this post. Proceeds help me to continue producing free content.

Design Cuts Live 7th Birthday Event

As part of DesignCuts’ jam-packed two-week birthday event, I presented a free, hour-long class on designing hand-lettered logos. During this session, I walk you through a mini case study to demonstrate my creative process for calligraphic logotype designs. Together we draft a calligraphic logotype based on a fictitious client brief.

This demo focuses on the design half: the conceptualization, proofing, and refining processes. I focus on the process of working with companies, the special considerations for branding applications based on the product, the creation of proofs based on a client brief.

I do this presentation using calligraphy brushes in Procreate, however the techniques I’m teaching can apply to any calligraphic medium. The initial phase of drafting concepts can be done with pencil on paper, so you absolutely do not need an iPad to follow along!

I provide live commentary along the way, and will answer your questions during the Q&A session following the presentation.
