About the Follow-Along

Description

Join me and my friend Angela at Studio Carta for a live presentation and Q&A streamed via Zoom. This is my second time teaching this fun virtual workshop!

Watch me demonstrate a number of techniques for adding whimsy to your calligraphy, to create playful variations in your lettering styles. You can follow along live, from home! Attendees will receive a printable PDF of class materials, making it easy to follow along with your own calligraphy supplies.

This follow-along is intended for early intermediate calligraphers and beyond. You do not need to have years of experience to follow along, but a basic proficiency in pointed pen calligraphy is required. Whether you've taught yourself or learned from a teacher, if you can use a pointed dip calligraphy pen and write full words, then you will be able to follow along with this demonstration.

I hope to see you there! We’re aware that many people will tune in from around the world, so please make use of this timezone converter to determine what 1:00pm Boston time is where you live! I’ll be teaching from my studio here in Athens, Greece, and Angela will broadcast from her Boston studio.

How it works

— Within 5 days of the follow-along, you will receive an email which contains:

  • A Zoom link you will use to log in on March 27th

  • A link to download your printable class materials

— During the demonstration, you will be able to see my hands writing, and a close-up view of my paper.

— The event will run for 90 minutes. There will be a break in the middle of the demonstration for questions, and more Q&A time at the end.

FAQ

Will this class be recorded so I can rewatch it later?
No, this class is live streamed only.

Do I need any special tools or supplies to follow along?
For this class, you will need: paper, ink, and a calligraphy pen of your choice. You can absolutely use calligraphy tools you already have, or you can purchase supplies using the supplies list above. If you have any questions about this, please reach out to molly@mollysuberthorpe. Feel free to send a photo if your question regards a specific tool!

I’m a total beginner to calligraphy. Can I still follow along?
This follow-along is not intended for people who have never done calligraphy. It is intended for early intermediate calligraphers and beyond. You do not need to have years of experience to follow along, but a basic proficiency in pointed pen calligraphy is required. Whether you've taught yourself or learned from a teacher, if you can use a pointed dip calligraphy pen and write full words, then you will be able to follow along with this demonstration.

I’m left-handed. Can I still follow along?
Yes! As stated above, this follow-along is intended for anyone who is already proficient in pointed pen calligraphy, so whether you’re right- or left-handed, the techniques I demonstrate will apply to you.

Will I be able to see your hands writing in the live stream?
Yes! You will be able to see my hands as I work!

Do I need a webcam that shows my hands in the live stream?
No, you do not need a webcam setup that shows your hands. This will not be a workshop where I will need to see your hands as you write. During the Q&A period at the end of class, you will be able to show me your paper (which you can simply hold up in front of your camera!) if you have specific questions or want specific feedback!

Can I get a refund if I can’t attend?
Yes, but only up to 5 days prior to the class date (March 22nd). Although this is an online course, there are a limited number of spots because I will interact with students during the Q&A period.
